Co-hosts Mexico have officially become the first team to book their ticket to the knockout rounds. Following a crucial 1–0 victory over South Korea on June 18 at the Estadio Akron in Guadalajara, El Tri secured the top spot in Group A with 6 points from two matches.

The decisive moment came in the 50th minute when midfielder Luis Romo capitalized on a defensive misunderstanding between the South Korean defense and goalkeeper Kim Seung-gyu to slot home the only goal of the match.
